Squarespace Website Design Services

Right now I only design websites using the Squarespace platform. I have used other platforms and feel it’s the best fit for most small businesses- especially service providers. If you are unsure, reach out and we can talk about what’s best for you. Squarespace is easy to maintain, requires no manual updates to plugins like WordPress e.g. It keeps your website safe from hackers. It’s also very affordable and offers great customer service.

Squarespace: This will be an ongoing expense for as long as the website is live. I recommend the Business plan from Squarespace. Check pricing on their website. You will receive a 20% discount for your first year if you work with me.

Domain: A domain name is your website name and address. If you purchase your domain from Squarespace, it’s free for your first year. I recommend keeping the domain and hosting separately. Godaddy and Hover are easy to connect with Squarespace websites.

Privacy policy: A privacy policy is the minimum legal requirement for a website. You might also have to add terms and conditions if you have an online shop. I will recommend free and paid options depending on your country of residence. Although I can’t provide legal advice!

GSuite: GSuite email is free for the first year. Ongoing costs is about $5/month (billed in US$)

Scheduling software and email marketing can also be an additional cost. I can help you pick free or paid options.

No, but I will give you guidance on how to write the website copy. I highly recommend investing in a professional copywriter if you are able to. I can provide you with a few options.

No, I believe website design and branding (graphic design) are two different skill sets. I offer Mini Branding for the basics- fonts, colours, and a text-based logo. It’s often enough to get you started. In my opinion, it’s more important to invest in copy/messaging and photography first. We can talk about this in more detail at our consultation call.

Yes, the design/layout is guided by the copy and photos. I can add e.g. a logo later but I usually need all the ‘pieces’ by the start date. I can’t build the house without the bricks….

Yes, that’s possible. Just be aware that images don’t always transfer, or blog comments can be lost. We have to evaluate the best process depending on how much content you have. I will ensure that your URLs will be reformatted (redirected) as Squarespace uses different URL formatting than WordPress. Depending on the number of blog posts and content you have, I will charge an additional feel. This is something we will discuss during our initial call.

A 50% payment is required to secure your spot in my design calendar, and 50% on completion. Talk to me if you need a more flexible arrangement.

I want to address this question as it seems to come up quite frequently. You are paying Squarespace to host your website and to provide the template (all Squarespace websites are based on a template). It’s not easy to just move the template to another platform- but the same goes for WordPress or other platforms.

If your website is designed using a WordPress theme you still need to host the website somewhere. It’s just as (un)likely the host shuts down as Squarespace. Squarespace started in 2003 and is well established so this would be a highly unlikely scenario. From what I read on social media it’s more likely that a WordPress designer ghosts you or your access is cut-off. Once your website design is completed I will transfer ownership to you and you will be in full control.
